As you may be aware Laurence Jackson School has received PFI funding for a new school to be built ready for opening September 2016. As part of the new school we will be modernising existing facilities at the leisure centre. It is envisaged that the works to the new school will commence in January 2015 with the first works being the demolition of D block on the driveway to the leisure centre. Our current timeframe for renovating the leisure centre shows that the works to this building should start March 2016 and last for up to 2 terms (6 months). The length and specification of the works has yet to be agreed and we are working hard to minimise any disruption to service users.
The new school will be built on the current astro turf and this will be taken out of use from late February 2015. A more specific date will be given in the first week of January 2015 so we can still allow usage.
As the school will be losing its heavily used astro turf we have applied for funding and submitted for approval a full size AGP bid to replace it elsewhere on site. The decision on this will be made in the last week of January 2015. Subject to approval we are hoping that works will commence late February or early march 2015. The works should last for 12-16 weeks leaving us with a new full size AGP by the end of June 2015. If the funding is rejected we will replace the current astro turf with a like for like replacement elsewhere on site again for June 2015.
As part of the new school being built some changes are happening to the visitor’s car park. The changes will mainly affect those users during the day as the car park will become an outside play area. During the day the tennis courts will become the car park for staff and visitors. However it is essential that all users follow the one way system that exists regardless of the time of day. We have had a few near misses in recent weeks and it is imperative that all lead bookers remind their groups about the one way system in operation on the site.
